Notifications are not arriving

Open Alerts → Notification Health in the app. It names which link in the chain is broken rather than leaving you to guess. Common causes:

• Notification permission was not granted. iPhone Settings → Earthquake Alerts → Notifications.
• No alert rule exists. Add one from the Alerts tab: a place, a radius and a minimum magnitude.
• A Focus mode is on. iOS silences the alert in that case.
• The earthquake did not match your rule. If your rule is M4.0+, an M3.2 will not notify you. The notification history lists what was not sent, and why.

Why did I get this alert?

Every notification explains itself under Alerts → Notification history: which rule matched, what threshold was in force, and the distance measured. It comes from the values recorded when the decision was made, so editing the rule later does not rewrite the past.

Location permission

Location shows earthquakes near you and calculates distances. Your live position is processed on your device. When you create an alert rule, that rule's centre coordinates are sent to the server — see the Privacy Policy.

Data sources

Earthquakes come from four agencies: USGS, EMSC, GEOFON and GeoNet. When more than one reports the same earthquake we merge them into a single event, show which agency's values are displayed, and list what the others said. Current status is under Settings → Data Sources in the app.

Why do magnitudes change?

Agencies publish an automatic solution within minutes and revise it after analyst review. The app does not hide those changes: the event detail shows the full revision history.

Does this app predict earthquakes?

No. Earthquake Alerts shows measurements published by official agencies for earthquakes that have already happened. It does not forecast and does not replace official early warning systems.
